Fresh, Small-Batch Nutrition for Better Health & Performance

Preparing for 2015

While my first race of the season is still distant on the horizon, the time to start getting ready has come. The unseasonably warm December weather has been great for getting in hours on the bike, which is always a bonus when it's time to begin long training rides again.

As part of my pre-season preparation, I recently took part in a winter-training camp at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. The purpose was to measure our health and fitness to make sure we're ready for another year of traveling the world and racing.

On the agenda were LT and VO2 testing, sports-injury-prevention evaluation, strength-training instruction, and educational talks on nutrition and banned substances. The part I found most interesting was the DEXA scan performed during injury-prevention testing. It was neat to see my bone density and body-fat percentage.

After testing was completed, I met with a physician to review my results. Luckily I passed the evaluation and have been deemed ready for another season. It's a good thing since I'm looking forward to getting back to racing my bike!

Happy Holidays!
